Speaking of great award winning movies, I should bring Akira Kurosawa's films to the attention of our viewers. He has a tremendous resume of films, beginning with Rashomon ( Winner of the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival as well as an Academy Award for best foreign film - The movie which shot him to stardom) to his later pieces, among my favorites, "Yojimbo", "The Seven Samurai", and "The Hidden Fortress." His later epic "Ran," also deserves mention, winning an oscar in 1985. Everything Akira Kurosawa drops onto reel is str8 up heat. It is said that his film "The Hidden Fortress" is the primary source of inspiration behind George Lucas' "Star Wars." No joke.
