It is too bad that Paolo Roversi is so adverse to experimentation and expansion of his oeuvre. His photographs, which I initially received as very ephemeral and unique, turn out to be one trick ponies- all pivoting on the same "trick." Which in turn has become stale.
Fashion photography at its best is a fine art- no? So lets hold it to the same critical rigor as we do other fine arts.
You've made enough money doing this, Paolo, now its time to go back into the woodwork and find your art again.
Picasso's transgression of periods is what made him great, not the work alone. All artists should keep this in mind.

it is what it is
hes just a chill bro. he has a niche. he cultivated it over years and years. attack someone who claims to be the overall 'best' and there will be more validity in the critique. but it feels mean to just go after this guy with no solicitation, especially because he IS talented, and nice. it sounds more like you're talking about yourself when you try and pick apart roversi's INCOMPLETE works. i'm down with the critical review, but pick and choose with more discretion. like if you wanna clown chanel iman, well, by all means.
niche = creative dead end.
lets look at nick knight for example, who went from straight photos, to manipulated hybridized photos, to film. that is an example of healthy exploration. and he will only get bigger and bigger and add tools to his belt im sure. perhaps this is important to me because its the type of model i want to follow in my career, thus is the subjectivity of a critique. remember, its not personal, its business. so whether the homey is nice and good is irrelevant to the discussion.
yea, but if he doesn't care, then what does it matter
